• Starting the Game
  • The game begins with a cutscene that plays before the welcome screen loads.

    • The game has 5 zones with 3 levels each. The game has a total of 15 levels.

    • Each level must be unlocked sequentially. Only the first level is available at the start of the game.
  • Basic game play
    • As Apple or Onion, reach the other side of the level as fast as you can:
      • Jump across the lava. If you hit the lava, you automatically fail the level.
      • You can use various floating object to act as floating platforms on the lava.
      • You can also use climbing poles to swing across the lava:
        • To get on the climbing pole, jump until you reach the poles.
        • Jump off once you reach the other side.
      • When you reach a ladder, you can climb to a higher platform.
      • Bouncing off balls lets you jump higher.
    • Collect all the dollar bills along the way.
  • Gotchas
    • In some areas you need to activate switches to cause objects to spin, cause objects to stop spinning, open gates, or drop boxes.
    • In many instances you need to push boxes into the lava and use them as temporary platforms to jump on to cross longer chasms.
    • Toward the end of the game there are some trampoline styled objects where you have to time the jump almost perfectly to collect all the cash.
    • If you are stuck somewhere consider if you can hit switches in a different order or if there is a nearby cardboard box or character switching spot.
  • Characters
    • After the second level, you can switch characters.
      • Apple can push cardboard boxes & fit into smaller spaces.
      • Onion can jump higher. Onion can only push boxes if there is a tall stack of them and he jumps high to hit the edge of the top one to give it momentum to fall over.
    • Switch between the characters by running toward their chalk outlines.
      • You often need to switch between the characters to clear the level.
      • In some cases you do not need to make a character switch just because it is accessible. Some levels require multiple play throughs to figure out the optimal strategy.
      • In the final few levels Onion is too tall to fit through parts of the level, requiring you to use Apple in those sections.
  • Star ratings
    • Your star ratings are dependent on the following factors:
      • Whether you completed the level
      • How fast you completed the level
      • Whether you collected all the dollar bills
    • Finishing the level automatically grants you a 1-star rating.
    • You get 3 stars for beating the level below record time while collecting all the dollar bills.

You score one star for each level you complete. You can also score a second and third star by beating levels within the required time and collecting all the money scattered across the levels.

To score 3 stars you must both beat the time limit and collect all the money in the level on a single playthrough. You can’t score 2 stars one way (e.g. collect all money) then later score 2 stars the other way (e.g. finish the level fast) and fill in to get a 3-star rating.
