• Starting the Game
  • Press the SPACEBAR on the welcome screen to bring up the level select screen.
    • Levels are unlocked sequentially.
    • Your web browser automatically saves your game progress.
  • The lower right corner of the welcome screen has 3 buttons for game developer information, erasing your game progress, and settings for controlling game sound and music volume.

    • Tap any key to initiate running.
    • Press the up arrow key to jump up.
    • Press the down arrow key to jump down when standing on brown platforms.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Tap the screen to select levels and initiate running.
    • Press the up arrow button in the lower right of the screen to jump up.
    • Press the down arrow button in the lower left of the screen to jump down.
  • Controls & indicators
    • The upper right corner of the screen has buttons for restarting the current level and pausing the game.
      • When the game is paused you can turn game music and sounds on or off before resuming play.
    • The level select screen shows how many levels you have unlocked.

  • Basics
    • Steve automatically runs back and forth endlessly, changing directions each time he runs into a wall.
    • You control when Steve jumps & use that to collect coins, avoid enemies, change platforms, activate switches & make your way to the exit gate.
    • You have to collect all the coins on each stage to open the exit door.
  • Hazards
    • Spikes – stationary obstacles which you die if you run into.
      • Some falls or jumps require you to time them with precision & move in a certain direction to avoid the spikes.
    • Mushrooms – enemies which move back and forth across platforms at a fixed speed on a regular pattern.
      • You die if you run into them.
      • You can run back and forth on other platforms to get the timing and direction right to avoid running into the mushrooms.
    • Ghosts – similar to mushrooms.
    • Switches – activate these to turn brown blocks clear so you can run through them.
      • On most levels you want to hit the switches, however there is one stage which you should avoid hitting the switch on.
      • If you hit the switch on level 22 you will not be able to collect the coin on the far right to open the door.
      • On level 28 you can jump through the floor below the door to exit even without activating the switch.
    • Gray floors – these fall away shortly after you walk on them.
      • These are not triggered for falling when you hit the bottom of them or run into the side of them.
      • When there is a long patch of gray floors you’ll need to jump periodically to leave some of them in place for making your way back across.
  • Levels
    • This game has 30 stages which are unlocked sequentially.
      • You can go back and replay previously beat levels at any time.
      • This game does not have an ending credits screen. When you beat the final level the screen goes black.
    • Winning vs losing
      • You beat a level by collecting all the coins on it & then exiting through the door.
      • You lose a level if you run into spikes, ghosts, or mushrooms.
      • This game offers unlimited continues, starting you at the beginning of the failed level.
      • On some levels with fall away gray floor blocks it is possible to get stuck. When you get stuck hit the level restart button in the upper right to reload the current level.
  • Tips
    • Take your time
      • Enemies will walk even before you go into motion, so you can wait your initial motion until the enemies are aligned where you want them.
      • Levels are not timed, so look them over before you start moving to plan out your route.
    • Jumping
      • In many cases you need to jump off of walls to land on platforms that are on the opposite side of your jump after you ricochet off the walls.
        • You can also bump your head into a part of the ceiling that is hanging down by jumping into it, or jump into the side of a platform to switch directions.
      • In some cases you need to make multiple consecutive jumps or multiple consecutive fall jumps in a tight window. Sometimes jumping early into the first jump makes it easier to have the timing correct for the second jump.
